The weather department has forecast moderate rain and thunderstorms in parts of Karnataka during peak summer. In its forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a cyclonic circulation has formed in Bay of Bengal and is moving towards Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which will lead to rain in multiple districts such as Bengaluru rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Tumkur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Bellary, Chitradurga and Mandya.

The rain and accompanying thunderstorm is expected till May 6, the IMD further said in its forecast.

The seven-day prediction gives a snapshot of expected weather phenomenon in various regions of Karnataka. The IMD says that light rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places over Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts on Thursday, May 1. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 24 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The weather department also said that light to moderate rain is expected in the coming week in Bengaluru city, Belagavaim, Dharwad, Bidar etc.

    Weather Forecast For Bengaluru

The IMD said that the city is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with light rain, thundershowers and gusty wind till May 2. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a cautionary outlook for the month of May, warning of above-normal temperatures and a likely rise in heatwave occurrences across several regions across the country.

While northern India is likely to receive above-average rainfall, other parts – especially the northwest, central, and northeast – may experience drier-than-usual conditions, IMD’s Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Maximum daily temperatures across India were the eighth highest ever recorded for April, while minimum temperatures ranked ninth highest. Most regions in northwest, central and northeast India recorded normal to above-normal daytime temperatures, and some areas in the peninsular and east-central regions avoided the worst of the heat.

  • 25-Year-Old Krutrim Techie Found Dead In Bengaluru, Toxic Work Culture Blamed

The body of the engineer, Nikhil Somwanshi, was found in the lake on May 8, and a first information report (FIR) was filed to look into the matter.

Nearly two weeks after the body of a 25-year-old machine learning engineer of an AI firm was found in Bengaluru’s Agara Lake, allegations have surfaced on Reddit and media reports quoting unnamed employees that the engineer died by suicide due to toxic work culture and an exploitative manager.

The body of the engineer, Nikhil Somwanshi, was found in the lake on May 8, and a first information report (FIR) was filed to look into the matter.

Somwanshi joined Krutrim, an AI company owned by ride-hailing app Ola, in August 2024 as a machine learning engineer, shortly after completing his master’s degree at Bengaluru’s Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

An outstanding student with a 9.30 GPA, he was allegedly burdened with the responsibilities of several former colleagues who resigned due to the conduct of their US-based manager, Rajkiran Panuganti.

In a Reddit post, a user ‘Kirgawakutzo’ alleged Mr Panuganti routinely used “traumatic” language toward new recruits, fostered a hostile atmosphere, and created a toxic work environment that led to multiple team resignations.

A Krutrim spokesperson said the company was heartbroken by the loss and is cooperating with the authorities. Somwanshi was on leave at the time, the spokesperson said.

“He reached out to his manager on April 8, expressing that he needed rest, and was promptly granted personal time off. Later, on April 17, he shared that he was feeling better but would benefit from additional rest, and his leave was extended accordingly,” the company said via email.

The Reddit user ‘Kirgawakutzo’ alleged the manager continued to mistreat staff even after learning of the engineer’s death.

Krutrim employees, requesting anonymity, described the manager as having a longstanding reputation for aggressive and demeaning behavior, often belittling junior employees and labelling them incompetent.

A report by Business Standard quoting a former Krutrim employee “corroborated the allegations and claimed to have resigned without another job offer in hand due to intense work pressure, recalling feeling suicidal.”

Financial Express report quoted another former employee – who worked with the manager Rajkiran Panuganti – as saying, “Rajkiran has no people management skills. He shouts at employees and disappears. The verbal abuse in meetings was traumatic.”

The Krutrim case has parallels to the death of Anna Sebastian, a 26-year-old employee at Ernst & Young, who suffered cardiac arrest; her family attributed it to intense job stress and excessive working hours.

A 42-year-old Bajaj Finance employee who died by suicide had in a note held his superiors and workplace pressure responsible.

At least four of these arrests were made in Haryana, three in Punjab, and one in Uttar Pradesh.

After the arrest of a travel vlogger suspected of spying, Hisar police had sounded an alarm that young influencers were being targeted by enemy countries. For easy money, such influencers go on the wrong path, Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan had told reporters.

Travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra, who runs a YouTube channel called ‘Travel with JO’, is from Hisar, Haryana. She was arrested last week for sharing Indian military information with Pakistan. The 33-year-old had come in contact with an official from the Pakistan High Commission and had visited Pakistan at least twice, said police. Pakistani intelligence operatives were trying to develop her as their asset in India, they added.

Davendra Singh Dhillon, 25, is a student of political science at Khalsa College in Patiala. On May 12, he was arrested in Haryana’s Kaithal for uploading photos of a pistol and guns on Facebook. It emerged during his questioning that he had visited Pakistan last November and had shared sensitive information with the officers of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) spy agency, including pictures of the Patiala military cantonment.

  • 4 Andhra Children Die Of Suffocation After Being Trapped In Locked Car

According to police, four children, all aged below 10 years, entered a parked car while playing. The car doors were locked, trapping them inside.

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, four children suffocated to death inside a locked car in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayanagaram district on Sunday.

The tragedy struck Dwarapudi village under Vijayanagaram Cantonment.

According to police, four children, all aged below 10 years, entered a parked car while playing. The car doors were locked, trapping them inside.

The incident came to light after the parents of the children launched a frantic search for them after they were not seen since morning. Eventually, their bodies were found in a car parked near the local Mahila Mandali office.

Uday, 8, Charumati, 8, Charishma, 6, and Manasvi, 6, had gone out to play on Sunday morning. Charumati and Charishma were sisters, while the two others were their friends. When they did not return home for a long time, their parents began searching for them.

As the doors of the car parked in the area were not locked, the children opened them and sat in the vehicle. The doors then got accidentally locked, trapping them inside. All four died of suffocation.

The death of four children plunged the village into a gloom.

This is the second such incident in Telugu states in the last month. In April, two girls died of suffocation after getting trapped in a locked car in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district.

The incident had occurred in Damaragidda village in Chevella mandal. Two cousins, aged four and five, who had come to attend a relative’s wedding, entered a parked car while playing outside the house. The car doors accidentally locked, trapping the children inside for a prolonged period in the rising heat.

Family members began searching for the girls after they had been missing for a long time. They were eventually found unconscious in the vehicle and rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.

Meanwhile, in another tragedy in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, three children drowned in a pit filled with rainwater on Sunday.

The incident occurred in Devarajapuram of Kuppam mandal. The deceased were identified as Shalini, 5, Ashwin, 6, and Gautami, 8.
